Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ][ Click to hide ] Another viewpoint of the scene reveals the trick! See the picture uploaded in the round group ("Photos" tab): www.noaofarc.ca/component/comprofiler/pl...oups&func=show&id=48 I obviously thought about these illusions such as the impossible triangle, and THE ENDLESS STAIRCASE as the basis right on topic for this round. However, I also thought about the very possibility of using 3D rendering in the first place. Maybe only drawing the illusion on paper could make it come into existence. Because maybe only such a drawing is able to "fool" the reality which is not supposed to be that flexible a priori. Fortunately I have been told that most if not all these kind of illusions are perfectly reproducible physically as long as the viewer perspective is restricted to a very narrow camera angle. After a few attempts I quickly came up with this solution which has quite low distortion overall. A first indication is the discrepancy in the number of stairs all around: 4 in the front, 3 on the left, 3 in the back, and 2 smaller stairs on the right. Then when looking more carefully, one can notice some extra room on the tower roof behind the staircase, way more room than one would expect in this case. As a final result, the full trick is completely covered up by the young boy, because the little step he is about to take is actually a few meters below him. Enjoy! |
