Well the fly is definitely not trapped in this case, even if the broken mirror really looks like a spider web.

However, what about a real spider web? How come a bug can get stuck in the web while the spider itself is able to walk all over it?

Interestingly enough, the spider simply knows which threads are sticky and which are not, but the fly cannot tell which is which, so there is no way out of the web.
