When I (JohnG) was a kid we went through a fad for growing crystal gardens. Back then we thought they were amazing, and when this topic came up I remembered those gardens and imagined a whole moon covered in beautiful crystal formations, maybe one of Jupiter's moons. I put the idea up in the forum and DrNo quickly created a picture and linked the idea to the Juno space probe already on its way to explore that very planet.
Juno's mission doesn't include Jupiter's moons but who knows what it might find up there? Perhaps, just perhaps, Juno will fly by a small undiscovered moon which is actively volcanic, rich in chemicals, and covered in crystal gardens.
The Juno spacecraft modeled in Wings 3D by JuuG, the remainder is DrNo's magic.

Io happens to be the most volcanically active body in the entire solar system,
and was a perfect choice to put up this idea. The energy which drives
the continuous volcanism must come from the tidal influences of
Jupiter on this nearby moon. Crystals represent the missing
link between volcanoes and gardens.
