They dreamt of gold and purity, and they sought immortality. They were free thinkers, the
finest minds of their time, men and women with intellect and imagination. Their search
for gold now looks futile but they were not failures: Isaac Newton was a physicist and a
brilliant mathematician, he was also an alchemist. And Newton looked up into the night sky;
he gave us the theory of gravity and explained the clockwork of the solar system. He was an
astronomer who built his own telescopes, and like alchemists before him he was a committed
astrologer. He, and they, believed that the planets and stars held answers.

And when one thinks about it? nothing has changed. We are seeking eternity, but we always have.
We have always looked up at the heavens in wonder and awe. We still dream of riches, scientists
search for a way to defeat the ageing process, and mankind still stares into infinity looking for answers.

The search for the-forever is a search that will last forever.

Michael White makes the case that Newton's supernaturalism was closely linked to his scientific achievement, particularly his theory of gravity. He even suspects that Newton invented the famous apple story to conceal the scandalous fact that his theory of gravity grew out of his alchemical researches."
